Top 10 Tips

Rugby can be a tough game, but by staying mentally and physically fit for play you can stay one step ahead of the competition. Here are some of our tips for helping you on the road to success.

  1. Be aware, alert and expect to receive a pass at any time.

  2. “Train hard, play hard” – you need to be ready for anything, so train the way that you will play in your game.

  3. Catching a high kick can be tricky, so once committed keep your eye on the ball at all times.

  4. Quality hand-eye co-ordination is important. You need to know how to hold the ball properly when you go into contact, etc so practice, practice, and practice again!

  5. If you are part of the line out make sure you know the calls.

  6. “Spaces not faces” – in other words, look out for the gaps and avoid contact.

  7. Play safe, always wear a gum guard.

  8. Rugby rewards those who work hard on and off the pitch.

  9. ‘Enjoy the ball’ – run with or try to follow the person with the ball.

  10. Eat and drink correctly to fuel your body.
